Isaiah 65 talks about "new heavens and a new earth," and Revelation 21 declares "a new heaven and a new earth." In order to understand why this is such a "thing," we need to think in different terms. That re-thinking begins in the beginning, in the Garden of Eden. That's where things come apart.
Both Isaiah and Revelation envision the two cosmic spheres - heaven and earth, what came apart in Eden - as coming together again. The issue is how that happens: God's people coming to righteousness in following God's will in Isaiah vs. God's violent intervention to impose resolution and righteousness for a helpless, incompetent, passive humanity in Revelation.
Which vision best reflects the gospel of Jesus? Which vision describes our role in bringing "new heavens and a new earth"? View the sermon video below and see how this works out, noting the downloads below the video panel.
