In times of decision, we may feel alone, trying to find our way when there are no good clues about how to proceed forward. People of faith have come to rely on the presence of God in one form or another to be their guidance counselor.
Sunday's scriptures returned us to Moses who is negotiating with God just after the golden calf incident. God is finished with this people and God's project with them, but Moses is persuasive. God remains with his people, despite their abysmally sinful track record.
In John 16, Jesus speaks with his disciples on the night of his arrest. The disciples may not understand how the forces against Jesus will come together, but Jesus knows his time is short. He shares the promise of "the Counselor," the Holy Spirit who will continue to reveal the truth and provide guidance for the faithful as they will seek to become the living body of the risen Lord in the world.
