Members of the congregation have been busy collecting a host of items for the Shoebox mission since early summer, and they're fnally done - all 105 shoeboxes!
This huge effort honors the memory of Carla June Mason who was the passionate advocate for the annual program at Fairfield Presbyterian, and many other churches in our area. While many in our church had been active contributors, the program has now been fully adopted by the rest of the congregation with the same kind of Carla June zeal.
The mission program is an worldwide outreach of Samaritan's Purse which is formally called Operation Christmas Child. The shoebox-sized packages are collected at a local shipping point and sent overseas, where we do not know.
However, we do know that 105 boys and girls in need somewhere in the world will receive a box of love and care, packed with a host of items that are both practical and playful. Through this ministry, we share the spirit of love and hope that is Christmas with our own faithful gift.
Our web site's Program-tab listing states that we put together 75-80 shoeboxes each year. That number applied to the unique effort by Carla June, but since her departure for life eternal and victorious two years ago, that number has exceeded 100 both years. We may be due for an update to the listing!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to making the program a huge success once again!
