BEARING THE KEYS
Like a local celebrity getting the honor of the key to the city, disciples are bearers of the keys of the Kingdom of God. Having them in our hands doesn't mean we use them to open the doorways to God's will.
The Exodus story about the midwives who treasonously defied Pharaoh is both striking and amusing as they make clear that the sovereign One is Yahweh-God, not Pharaoh.
In Matthew, Jesus makes it explicit that Peter (the church and its faithful) bears the keys, and by such faith will the faithful be gathered and sustained by their God.
